Referee Attribute Survey

This survey is open to the whole rugby league community. It is designed to see if the key attributes of referees as determined by elite referees are comparable to the views of other members of the rugby league community.

The referee attributes are sourced directly from a recent study by Morris and O'Connor (2017). In this study an elite group of NRL referees were interviewed and the key attributes they believed contributed to performance were obtained. The interview responses were assessed via modified Delphi methods and found 25 attributes were consistently shared.

The survey will remain open until the 2nd October 2017.

This survey asks each respondent to rank each attribute. These rankings along with the rugby league group as nominated by the respondent will be analysed via principle component statistics and traditional correlation techniques. This analysis may explain any consistent attributes that are shared with the rugby league community and highlight any that may be unique to referee or to the elite level.

The study asks each respondent to treat the survey as objectively as possible. Any derogatory or banter commentary will be removed. The only personal information recorded is the IP address of the respondent. This information is only used to check for multiple forms from a single person. Any subsequent forms will be removed from the study. At the close of the survey all IP information will be deleted. The information is stored on a protected server.
